Solar Install for a home with a more extreme A-Frame

March 25, 2024

Not all roofs have the idyllic angle and south-facing direction for perfectly efficient solar energy production. However, that doesn’t mean we can’t design a system that works and looks great. For this homeowner we installed a system with a 10 kW inverter and east/west facing solar modules. Their goal was to completely eliminate their electricity bill. This system also has a cleaner look as it has no rail overhang.

We estimate that a solar system of this size will produce around 15,000kWh per year for this property. The average home in Edmonton uses somewhere between 8,000 – 15,000 kilowatts of electricity. When we do an install, we always design the system to maximize production to match your electricity consumption. For this particular project, we installed over 30 solar panels (modules).

Product List:

  • 455-Watt Solar Modules by Longi
  • SolarEdge Inverter
  • SolarEdge Energy Meter
  • SolarEdge Power Optimizers

Solar Planning Tips:

Adding a home solar PV system to most residential properties on average takes three months through three stages of work:

  1. Planning,
  2. Design and Permitting,
  3. Installation, Inspection and Energizing.

The best time to plan for adding solar is in the winter so we can get on the roof first thing in the spring! If you have an older home, you may require electrical upgrades in order to make solar work.
