Solar PV Panel Installation Services End-to-end Planning and Maintenance
Solar system planning and installation is one of the cornerstone services that BLDG is best known for in Edmonton. We offer all-in-one services from system design, PV Panel selection, installation and maintenance for residential customers. We are a proud member of Solar Alberta, and our staff are CSA NOC 7241 Certified for Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Systems.
Brands We Use
BLDG develops a detailed design that leverages the most suitable product for the project/application. We install all types of Solar Panel products, including AP Systems, Longi, FastRack, Fronius, and more, to help you manage your budget and energy goals. To ensure maximum efficiency, we also work with SolarEdge Power Optimizers, boosting the energy output of each solar panel and allowing you to monitor your system’s performance in real time.

Planning
Adding a solar system to most residential properties takes three months on average and three phases of work:
Phase One: Design and Quoting
During this time, we consider key elements such as your home’s roof area and design, surrounding environment and general access to sunlight. We also get an understanding of your goals for energy production.
With these critical research elements in place, we then design a system and select products that maximize electricity production. A detailed design and proposal is sent to the homeowner to review. We will answer any questions about our design or proposal and make changes as requested by the homeowner. Once the design is agreed upon and the proposal is accepted, we apply for a permit with the city.
Phase Two: Permiting, Engineering, Interconnection Agreement & Product Procurement
In Edmonton, installing solar requires multiple permits: a development permit (if zoning is impacted), a building permit, and an electrical permit with detailed drawings and equipment specs. A professional engineer must design and authenticate the system, ensuring structural safety, code compliance, and proper commissioning with manuals, warranties, and training.
After the electrical permit is issued, BLDG applies to the Wire Services Provider following Alberta’s Micro-Generation Regulation for an interconnection agreement, which enables safe grid connection and exported power credits. Meanwhile, certified solar modules, inverters, and other components are procured to match the approved design, with the process typically taking several weeks from permitting through to final interconnection approval.
Phase Three: Solar Panel Installation
After permits, engineering, interconnection agreement, and procurement are complete, the installation team prepares the site with safety measures and marks the layout, including any roof reinforcement or ground trenching. Next, racking and mounting hardware are installed, ensuring proper tilt, alignment, and secure attachment, with waterproofing checks on roofs.
Solar panels are then placed on the racking, wired in strings, and connected to inverters, combiner boxes, and disconnects. Finally, conduits and grounding are completed, and the system is tied into the building’s electrical panel.
Phase Four: Commissioning, Inspection & Energization
During commissioning and inspections, the installer tests the system for proper voltage, current, inverter performance, and safety compliance, then submits documentation for municipal review. City inspectors confirm that the installation meets building and electrical codes, while the utility (e.g., EPCOR) verifies the interconnection and installs a bi-directional meter.
Once approvals are complete, the system is officially energized and connected to the grid. In the handover phase, the owner receives manuals, warranties, monitoring access, and training on safe operation and maintenance of the system.
Pro Tip: If you want to add solar to your home, the Fall or Winter seasons are an ideal time for planning and product procurement. With adequate lead time for parts manufacturing and delivery, we can start installation in the early spring.
